PlainWay — last updated 2 October 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and PlainWay LLC, an Ohio limited liability company ("PlainWay", "we", "us"). They govern your use of the PlainWay application and the routing service behind it.
You accept these terms by tapping the button that says so, on the screen PlainWay shows before your first trip. Until you do, the app will not route you anywhere. If you do not accept them, do not tap it — you can close the app and nothing further happens.
PlainWay is an aid to navigation. It is not a substitute for your own judgement, for the road in front of you, or for the law.
You are driving. You remain solely responsible for the operation of your vehicle and for obeying all traffic laws, signs, signals and road conditions.
Vehicle profiles and route restrictions
PlainWay sends the selected vehicle profile’s height, width, length, weight and axle count to the routing engine. You can edit height, length, weight and axle count. Width comes from the selected preset and cannot currently be changed. These inputs do not establish that every applicable restriction has been checked. Restrictions may be missing, incorrect or unsupported, and a suggested route may be unsuitable or unlawful for your vehicle or load.
Measured against the deployed routing engine on 21 September 2026, height changes a route at a known low structure. We have not established that the engine applies a corresponding check for width, length, weight or axle count, and sending a value is not the same as a restriction being enforced. Axle count in particular does not establish that axle-weight or axle-spacing limits are applied.
When it compares your vehicle with a clearance recorded in its map data, PlainWay treats the vehicle as 6 inches (0.15 m) taller than the height you entered. That allowance does not make a recorded clearance correct, and it does nothing where no clearance is recorded: on 1 October 2026 a test route for a 13′6″ vehicle passed under a railroad bridge for which the map held no height at all. A posted clearance can also be reduced by resurfacing, snow or ice.
Restrictions may be missing, incorrect or out of date. The absence of a warning does not mean that a road or structure is suitable. PlainWay does not apply hazardous-materials restrictions or establish compliance with permit requirements.
Before travelling, confirm your vehicle profile and the height, length, weight and axle count you have entered, for your vehicle in its travelling configuration, including its load, trailer and attachments. Preset values are starting points only. Width cannot be entered. If your vehicle or load is wider than the preset width shown on the vehicle screen, that configuration is not supported and you should not rely on PlainWay for it. Independently check restrictions relevant to your journey, including official route and permit requirements.
Car mode does not check whether a route is suitable for a larger vehicle or vehicle combination. Road signs, official restrictions and actual conditions take precedence over PlainWay's guidance. If clearance or access is uncertain, stop in a safe place before proceeding and verify it. Do not attempt to pass a restriction because PlainWay directs you to do so.
If an instruction from PlainWay conflicts with what you can see, with the law, or with safety, ignore the instruction.
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use PlainWay on devices you own or control. The licence is personal to you, but the journeys need not be: you may use PlainWay for driving you do in the course of your work or business, including in a commercial vehicle. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, resell, rent or redistribute the app, nor use the routing service other than through the app, nor use automated means to access it at a volume that burdens it. Where you obtained PlainWay from Apple's App Store, section 10 also applies to this licence.
Who may use PlainWay. PlainWay is meant for licensed drivers. If you are under 18, you may use it only with the permission of a parent or guardian. Where a law requires a parent's consent before a minor can agree to terms like these, we will not enforce these terms against a minor whose parent has not given that consent.
PlainWay depends on a server we operate, on satellite positioning, on your device, and on your network connection. Any of these can fail. We do not promise that the service will be available without interruption or error, and we may change, suspend or discontinue any part of it. We will try not to do so without reason.
Routing and map display use data from OpenStreetMap, © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database Licence. That data is contributed by volunteers and is neither complete nor guaranteed to be accurate.
If PlainWay routes you somewhere it should not have — a road that is closed, a turn that is illegal, a bridge that is out — please report it. We would rather hear about it twice than not at all.
Where PlainWay is sold or offers purchases, those transactions are handled by Apple under Apple's terms, and refunds are governed by Apple's policies rather than ours. Nothing in these terms limits any statutory right you have as a consumer, including rights to cancel or to a refund under the law where you live.
Our Privacy Policy explains what the app collects and why. It forms part of these terms.
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, PLAINWAY IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT ROUTES, DISTANCES, ARRIVAL TIMES, SPEED LIMITS OR SPOKEN INSTRUCTIONS ARE ACCURATE, COMPLETE, CURRENT OR SUITABLE FOR YOUR JOURNEY.
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, PLAINWAY LLC WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL OR TIME, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE PLAINWAY, WHETHER BASED ON WARRANTY, CONTRACT, TORT OR ANY OTHER LEGAL THEORY, AND WHETHER OR NOT WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO PLAINWAY WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE APP IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED UNITED STATES DOLLARS.
Some of this may not apply to you.
The exclusions and limitations in this section do not apply to death or personal injury caused by our negligence; fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; gross negligence, reckless conduct or intentional misconduct; or any liability or remedy that applicable law does not permit us to exclude or limit.
Nothing in these Terms removes any mandatory consumer right or remedy.
If an exclusion or limitation in this section is unenforceable, it does not apply to the extent of that unenforceability. The remaining provisions continue to apply only to the extent permitted by applicable law.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties or the limitation of certain damages, so parts of sections 7 and 8 may not apply to you. If you are a consumer in the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area, Australia or another jurisdiction with mandatory consumer protection law, you keep all rights that law gives you, and these terms are read subject to them.
You agree to indemnify PlainWay LLC against claims arising from your misuse of the app or your breach of these terms. This does not apply to the extent the claim arises from our own acts or omissions, and it does not apply to consumers where the law does not permit it.
Where you obtained PlainWay from Apple's App Store, the following applies, and takes precedence over anything else in these terms that conflicts with it:
You may stop using PlainWay at any time by deleting it. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these terms or use the service in a way that harms it or other users. Sections 7, 8, 9 and 12 survive termination.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and the state and federal courts located in Ohio will have jurisdiction.
If you are a consumer resident in the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area, or another jurisdiction whose law gives you the right to bring proceedings in your own courts and to the protection of your own consumer law, nothing in this section removes that right.
If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remain in force. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between us about PlainWay.
We may update them. If we change these terms or the Privacy Policy materially, PlainWay shows you the acceptance screen again and will not route you until you accept the new version. Continuing to use the app is not how you accept a change, and we do not treat it as though it were.
