PlainWay

Navigation made simple.

PlainWay takes the straightforward route and tells you only what you need to know — fewer turns, less noise, and a calmer drive.

PlainWay is an iOS app, currently in testing.

What you’ll notice

A map with two routes to the same place: an alternate route zigzagging through a village, 30 minutes with more turns, and PlainWay's simplest route around it, 32 minutes with fewer turns, marked plus 2 minutes

Fewer turns

When arrival times are similar, PlainWay suggests the route with fewer turns—and shows any extra time. You choose.

A route that fits

Choose your vehicle—car, van, RV, box truck or semi—and confirm its dimensions. PlainWay finds a route around low bridges and other obstacles.

A long empty road through open country, with a single PlainWay instruction above it: 42 miles, continue on Route 20

Fewer distractions

A long drive gets a handful of directions instead of dozens.

A country road forking right at a green sign reading River Road. PlainWay's banner above it says: 500 feet, turn right onto River Road. A note beneath says the map calls the same road County Road 12.

Names that match signs

PlainWay uses the name you see on the sign—even when the map calls it something else.

Speed limits, any time

See the posted limit for the road you’re on—with or without a destination.

Who it’s for

Drivers who want clear directions without constant reminders. PlainWay tells you when to turn, with time to prepare. It’s especially helpful for larger vehicles, where fewer turns mean less effort.

Before you drive

PlainWay is an aid to navigation. It is not a substitute for your own judgement or for the road in front of you.

Obey what you can see. Road signs, signals, closures and conditions always take precedence. Maps, speed limits and vehicle restrictions come from OpenStreetMap and can be wrong, out of date or missing entirely. Selecting a larger vehicle does not establish that a route is safe, passable or lawful for it — the absence of a warning does not mean a road or structure is suitable, and hazardous-materials restrictions are not applied at all. Set your destination before you move off.

If PlainWay routes you somewhere it shouldn't have, please tell us — we'd rather hear about it twice than not at all.

Privacy, briefly

There are no accounts and no advertising. Your location is used to work out a route, find places near you and show the speed limit, and is then discarded — we keep no history of where you have been, and there is no record on our server to lose. The full detail is in the Privacy Policy.
